Dimensions: The frame overall approximately 64cm high x 74cm wide, visible canvas within frame 41.25cm high x 51.5cm wide
We have been unable to identify the artist in this case. Equine portraits were hugely popular during the early 20th century. Notable and influential artists included Henry Frederick Lucas-Lucas.
Condition report: The work is in oil on canvas therefore framed but unglazed. Evidence of historic overpainted restoration visible under UV to horse’s legs and tail, some white marks to canvas, craqueleur and separation visible throughout, frame with some losses. Painting displays well though may benefit from professional restoration.
